Review what the word cycle means. ( Seasons are a cycle and repeat over and over again, life is a cycle—all living things cycle—the life cycle.
Start with the word ‘Water’ and ask students to write down everything they know about water. Once this is done, have them share with an elbow partner what they know about water. Then review on a whole all the things known about water.
Brainstorm all the areas where water is found.
Brainstorm all the ways that water moves.
Ask students what would happen if there was no water.
Brainstorm all the words that pertain to water.
Make a list of all the uses we have for water.
Identify all the forms of water.
Brainstorm what happens when water is heated by sunlight. Use a dish with some drops of water in it by the window on a sunny day or outside to observe what happens.
While working on the water cycle, make predictions for the next day about whether it will rain/snow or not.
Make the statement: Today, the water we use and drink, is the same water the dinosaurs used and drank. Why is this?
